D-DAY C-47 "SKYTRAIN" / DAKOTA
EXPANSION PACK RELEASE
The free C-47 expansion pack for owners of MAAM-SIM's R4D / DC-3 CD is available for download today, the 61st Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion. It is dedicated to the valiant Troop Carrier Pilots and Airborne Troops of Operation Overlord.

The expansion pack features four different Douglas transports...

The C-47A "Sugar Blues" flew with the 89th Troop Carrier Squadron, 438th Troop Carrier Group, 53d Troop Carrier Wing. She is depicted as she appeared on June 5/6th 1944, in full D-Day markings.

The 438th led the airborne invasion of Normandy, dropping the first units of the 101st Airborne into France as part of Operation Neptune Boston.

"Sugar Blues" is a cargo configured model. Cargo can be offloaded with a keystroke...

The second "Gooney Bird" in our salute to this indispensable warhorse and her gallant crews is "Sugarpuss", of the 90th Troop Carrier Squadron, 438th Troop Carrier Group, 53d Troop Carrier Wing.


"Sugarpuss" is equipped with a paratrooper effect that allows you to recreate your own drop...

The paratrooper exit panel is removable in flight and the hinges are masked off to prevent the static lines snagging...

The RAF is ably represented by a pair of celebrated Dakota Mark III's.

Dakota YSDM, serial number KG374 of 271 Squadron, 46 Group RAF was piloted by Flt. Lt. David S. A. Lord, DFC.

Flt Lt. Lord was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his heroism in trying to re-supply beleaguered British troops at Arnhem, Holland during Operation Market Garden.

The second Dakota,
YS-DJ, KG444, "Pie Eyed Piper of Barnes", was piloted by Flt. Lt. "Professor" Jimmy Edwards, DFC, also of 271 Squadron, 46 Group. Like her Squadron-mate, KG444 was later shot down on Sep 21, 1944 at Arnhem, Holland.
