PASSAGE TO VALHALLA -- PLOESTI -- Is a story about the fiercely fought air battles waged by the German Luftwaffe to protect their vital oil supplies against the attacks by the American 15th Air Force and the British 205th bomb wing. These allied raids eventually succeeded in destroying those refineries, at great cost, hastening the end of the war.

The author, William J. Fili, is a veteran of 34 combat missions in a B-24 Liberator Bomber in World War II before he was blown out of those European skies four miles above the Earth and then found himself in a Prisoner Of War Camp in Bucharest, Romania. Bill talks of the profound heroism and the awesome sacrifices made by individuals in their late teens or early twenties who voluntarily gave their lives to save their fellow combatant, so they could survive the shambles of war.
