the MID-ATLANTIC AIR MUSEUM STORE :: CERAMIC MUGS :: Robin Hood Toby Mug

  Robin Hood Toby Mug #16451
Robin Hood Toby Mug  This toby jug is an exact replica of the original movie prop used in Twentieth Century Fox's 1949 hit "Twelve O'clock High", starring Gregory Peck and Dean Jagger.

The film begins in 1949, as American attorney Harvey Stovall spots a familiar toby jug in an English antique shop. He buys it, boards a train and then bicycles to the abandoned airbase at Archbury where he served in World War II. The film then flashes back to 1942.

And the significance of the Robin Hood toby mug? Usually it sets on the mantle in the officers' club, face to the wall; whenever there's a mission the mug is turned face out. "Not again!" an officer mutters when he is confronted by the face.

The real movie prop mug, which was the prized possession of the Frank Armstrong family, fell victim to theft in the early 90s and has not been seen since.

A replica, like this one, is in use by the Officer's club at Whiteman AFB, Missouri, home of the 509th Bomb Wing (B-2 Spirit stealth bombers).

Dimensions are 8" high by 8 1/2" wide (includes handle)
On the bottom is an image of a B-17 with the name of the aircraft (this changes with each different shipment) and embossed in the bottom is the corresponding Bomb Group number.
