MAAM-SIM ISSUED UPGRADES AND ADD-ONS
FSX MISSING VC ALTIMETER PATCH
A bug in the FSX version 10 of the MAAM-SIM R4D/DC-3/C-47 package caused missing altimeters in the virtual cockpit of the DC-3 Passenger version and the C-47A Cargo version models as well as many of the other aircraft which share their instrument panels. Only the R4D and those planes using its panel were unaffected. This little patch replaces the two defective panel configuration files.
Note. Customers who purchase and download the FSX R4D/DC-3/C-47 package after May 2, 2016 will find the patch included in their download archive.
FSX BASIC COMPATIBILITY UPDATE FOR R4D/DC-3/C-47 PACKAGE

This is a free update to allow owners of the MAAM-SIM R4D/DC-3/C-47 CD or Download Version for FS2004 to install and use the FS9 aircraft in Flight Simulator X. There have been many changes by Microsoft from FS9 to FSX. This update primarily addresses changes in the panel and aircraft configurations, and gauges. It will install thumbnail pictures for the FSX Select Aircraft Menu.
Updates all sixteen aircraft included in the 9th Edition R4D/DC-3/C-47 CD and the R4D/DC-3/C-47 Download Version, but may also be used for any previous edition FS9 CD.
This upgrade will allow you to use the planes in the new sim, but more remains to be done, and there are some features that are no longer supported by FSX. We intend to produce a full-blown FSX version of the aircraft package in the future. Includes illustrated html installation instructions which you should definitely use! By MAAM-SIM
ATTENTION! If you have installed FSX Service Packs 1 and 2 or the Acceleration Expansion Pack, you will also need the FSX Transparency Fix for SP2/Acceleration, below...
FSX TRANSPARENCY FIX FOR SP2/ACCELERATION
File Size - 121 KB
Users experiencing transparency problems with the R4D/
DC-3/C-47 models in FSX with Service Pack 2 or the Acceleration Expansion Pack
( spinning props and VC glass ) should apply this patch.
Just unzip/overwrite the enclosed files in the texture folder of any of the
MAAM-SIM Dakotas that you fly in FSX/Acceleration and you'll have your glass
back in the VC and normal transparent spinning props.
Mind you, as these planes are still FS9 models ported over to FSX, not all
transparency problems are gone. Glass on the exterior model will
disappear f.i. when you taxi along trees, fences, or any other scenery items
that have an alpha channel applied.
FS2004 MAAM-SIM R4D/DC-3/C-47 VC YOKES REMOVAL
File Size - 1.6 MB
A quick fix to enable users to remove the yokes from any of the MAAM-SIM R4D-6/DC-3A/C-47 aircraft when in virtual cockpit mode. This option was originally included in the base package, but has not been since. With recent improvements released by MAAM-SIM, however, many more users are flying the aircraft from the VC and this modification allows a full view of critical navigation instruments that are otherwise blocked by the yokes. The virtual cabin remains. By Mark Beaumont for MAAM-SIM.
C-47 'ALL THEATERS' EXPANSION PACK WITH VIRTUAL COCKPIT UPGRADE FOR FS2004
File Size - 18 MB
Six new C-47 models of the USAAF, RAF, RAAF and CNAC in liveries from the ETO, CBI, SWPA, and Med Theaters of Operation. The planes feature U.S. and UK paratroop and para-drop cargo effects. The included VC Upgrade incorporates numerous fully functional controls, radio and navigator's compartments and animated pilots. By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: Requires installation of the D-Day Expansion Pack (below) if your R4D/DC-3 CD is 4th Edition or older. Newer CD's and the Download Version include the D-Day pack. This pack is included on the 9th Edition and subsequent R4D/DC-3/C-47 CDs and the Download Version.

Many new features, including operating American and Commonwealth paratroop and para-drop cargo effects, blue formation lights, folding paratroop bucket seats, unique para exit door animation, glider tow tail, paddle type propeller blades, authentic antenna systems, full blown typical C-47 3D cabin and many more. The C-47A OY-BPB is owned and operated by The Association for Flying Museums Planes / Danish Dakota Friends and is based at Værløse, Denmark. This new photo-real model has many new features, including new engine textures, night-lit nacelles, 3-D propeller hub mechanisms, modern antennae array, and much more to duplicate the real OY-BPB. You must have the R4D/DC-3 package installed in FS2004 before you can install this add-on. By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: Included on the 9th Edition, subsequent R4D/DC-3/C-47 CDs, and the Download Version.

MAAM-SIM DC-3 REPAINT TEMPLATES
File Size - 16.7 MB
These are 24-bit templates on which to base repaints of the FS2004/FS2002 MAAM-SIM DC-3 . This is not a 'paint kit' as such, as the original MAAM-SIM DC-3 bitmaps are partly photo-real. Rather, these are semi-finished templates on which to base further work. This initial package comprises bare metal and white top liveries for the base Passenger and Cargo DC-3 models in different variations, together with revised alpha channel templates. Simple instructions are included. These base textures reflect commonly found "background" configurations for many liveries, and will save repainters time by not having to get rid of the default color schemes found in the original package before starting work. Please note that further templates will be issued to complement any future versions of the MAAM-SIM model. The intention is that those templates can be added to this base 'paint-kit' folder, the methodology and basic instructions being similar for all paints. Where changes to the model invoke changes in texture mapping or other differences, this will be noted with each new package provided. By Mark Beaumont for MAAM-SIM, based on original textures by Jan Visser.

This little fix provides three wake and oil drip effects that were left out of the MAAM-SIM R4D / DC-3 CD, 5th Edition. It IS NOT REQUIRED for the downloaded version of the XC-47C add-on "maamxc47.zip". By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: Included from the 6th Edition R4D/DC-3/C-47 CD on, as well as the Download Version.
File Size - 16.65 MB
This texture set in Folsom's Air Service livery requires both a previous installation of the MAAM-SIM R4D-6/DC3A package and the free, add-on XC-47C aircraft that complements that package (maamxc47.zip). This aircraft was originally construction number (c/n) 11761 and was delivered to the USAAF as 41-68834 in July of 1943. A DC-3A/C-53D-DO, she flew for Eastern Airlines as NC86562 until 1952. She was converted to a float plane by Dick Folsom of Greenville, Maine, USA in 1976. Until her floats were removed recently, she was the only remaining example of a DC-3 on floats in the world. By Mark Beaumont.
NOTE: Included from the 5th Edition R4D/DC-3/C-47 CD on and the Download Version.
XC-47C AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT ADD-ON FOR FS2004
File Size - 4.47 MB
The Douglas XC-47C # 42-5671 was a 1943 prototype attempt to create a viable amphibious version of the workhorse C-47 by adding a pair of Edo 78 floats. Its flight performance, especially the takeoff, was less than spectacular, and a trial with rocket assisted takeoff proved unsatisfactory. Historical accounts vary on the number of amphibian Gooney Birds that were actually put into service, although 150 sets of floats were reportedly built for field installation. Most authorities cite five aircraft, some of which were said to have been used in the Pacific and Alaskan theaters for air-sea rescue missions. You must have the R4D/DC-3 package installed in FS2004 before you can install this add-on. By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: Included on the 5th Edition R4D/DC-3 CD, all subsequent editions, and the Download Version.
R4D / DC-3 SERVICE PATCH# 1 FOR FS2002
File Size - 5.2 MB
This self-installing patch corrects several issues found after release of the Douglas R4D/DC-3 CD. See the included "R4D_8_P1.txt" for complete details and installation notes. By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: This patch is not required for CD Edition 4 or later or the Download Version.
R4D / DC-3 SERVICE PATCH # 1 FOR FS2004 - INCLUDES OIL DRIP EFFECT
File Size - 5.2 MB
This self-installing patch corrects several issues found after release of the Douglas R4D/DC-3 CD. See the included "R4D_9_P1.txt" for complete details and installation notes. This self-installer also adds a new radial engine oil drip effect when the aircraft is parked. By MAAM-SIM
NOTE: This patch is not required for CD Edition 4 or later, or for the Download Version.
R4D/DC-3/C-47 USER'S MANUAL - HTML VERSION WITH EMBEDDED INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS
This file is already included on the R4D/DC-3/C-47 CD and is placed here primarily for purchaser's of the download version of that aircraft package.
This is the free software manual for the CD and Download versions of the R4D/DC-3/C-47 add-on aircraft packages. It is in html format with many dynamic-link bookmarks for easy navigation through the extensive document, and is illustrated with numerous pictures and diagrams. It also contains instructional videos filmed aboard R4D #50819 covering all phases of flight operations. Although intended primarily for reading on your browser, it may also be opened and printed as a document using recent versions of MS Word. This is 'must reading' for proper operation of this complicated aircraft. See the enclosed read-me for easy instructions. By MAAM-SIM

PILOT'S OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS - C-47 AIRPLANE
File Size - 38.1 MB
Another of the vintage manuals from the old R4D CD, this is the 70 page Tech Order No, 01-40NC-1 "Pilot's Flight Operating Instructions - C-47 Airplane" from 1942, revised in '43. The manual, along with one for a C-46, were sent by Art & Wayne Gutschow, whose Uncle Howard was one of the heroes who flew the "Hump" in C-46's during WW-II. Now he flies our plane under much less arduous conditions. By MAAM-SIMManuel d'utilisation du R4D / DC-3 - édition française - AU FORMAT ADOBE PDF
File Size - 9.4 MB
The three massive downloads that make up the html manual may be too much for some downloaders to handle, and others may just be looking for a version suitable for printing. So François produced this Adobe PDF version to serve those users. It does not contain the videos, of course, but on the other hand, it's only 10 MB, instead of nearly 300!

François Mavel, a Captain with Air France who flies Airbus A320 series aircraft, volunteered to take on the monumental task of translating the very extensive R4D / DC-3 User's Manual for MAAM-SIM. It's not just a translation of the text, though. François has also reworked all the labels included in the many diagrams, then, to top it off, he took the thirteen instructional videos and reproduced them with voice-over translation of Russ Strine's explanations!

ALTERNATIVE PANEL FOR THE MAAM DC-3
File Size - 673 KB

DC-3 FUEL TANK SELECTION AND AUTO-LEAN MODIFICATION
File Size - 101 KB
This gauge is applicable only to the FS2004 MAAM-SIM DC-3 (available from Mid Atlantic Air Museum Simulations at www.maam.org) or other planes using the MAAM-SIM DC-3 AIRCRAFT.CFG and MaamSim_DC3.air flight dynamics files, such as the Mark Beaumont 'IFR' Panel modification for the MAAM-SIM DC-3 (DCAMAAM4.zip, DCAMAAM5.zip). It is not calibrated for use with the stock DC-3, or the MAAM-SIM R4D flight dynamics files, or other third party aircraft. Likewise, it is not recommended for use with the MAAM-SIM DC-3 in FS2002. The purpose of this gauge is to disable FS2004's default characteristic of setting the fuel flow to the engines from "all" tanks setting, and to simulate the correct auto-rich and auto-lean settings on the mixture controls as desired. By Dave Bitzer and Mark Beaumont.
WATER RUDDER CONTROL FOR DC-3 AIRWAYS "IFR" PANEL MODIFICATION
File Size - 342 KB
This gauge is useful only to those who have two other downloads in addition to the MAAM-SIM R4D-6/DC3, itself. You must also have the XC-47C add-on, of course. Finally, you will need Mark Beaumont's 'IFR' panel for the MAAM-SIM aircraft (DCAMAAM4.ZIP), available below. This gauge adds a functional water rudders lever to the main, IFR view and VC modes, negating the necessity to use key strokes and indicating status of the rudders. This is an unofficial addition and is not configured to fit the default MAAM-SIM DC-3 panel as aliased by the XC-47C. Installation instructions are included. By Mark Beaumont
DC-3 AIRWAYS PANEL MODIFICATIONS
File Size - 129 KB
These unofficial modifications, in two versions, of the panel supplied for the DC-3 in the MAAM-SIM package were uploaded primarily for the use of DC-3 Airways VA pilots. In both versions everything has been consolidated on, or is accessible from, the Pilot's panel. Most features are accessible from the VC also. Version 1 replaces the Sperry autopilot with a Bendix autopilot and adds an HSI and RMI to the panel; Version 2 retains the Sperry but replaces the directional gyro with a more contemporary gyro with Heading bug. This panel also has an RMI and a conventional VOR1 gauge. Both panels have several other enhancements including standby radios. Modifications by Mark Beaumont of the original panels by Bill Rambow.
Note: Some pilots have reported a CTD (crash to desktop) problem with my MAAM-SIM panel modifications as uploaded in DCAMAAM4.ZIP (above). This has been pinned down to a conflict caused by the 'FSTSTuner' status light installed on the panel, which is relevant to the use of 'FSTSTuner' with 'Teamspeak' communications software. These revised PANEL.CFG files will blank off this gauge (although not remove the entry, in case you should ever wish to revert) and, hopefully, prevent any further problems of this nature. If you are experiencing no problems (particularly, when calling up the kneeboard within the sim) then you may not need the following update (DCAMAAM5.ZIP).
R4D / DC-3 PART 91 IFR PANEL MODIFICATION
File Size - 4.7 KB
This download consists of instructions to install a glare-shield mounted default Bendix King autopilot and GPS for both pilot and co-pilot's panels. This mod makes it practical for a single-pilot to conduct IFR flight in challenging weather using Jeppesen chart routes and procedures that are used in today's complex instrument navigation environment, without the more extensive alterations of the DC-3 Airways Panel Mods. Before and after World War II KLM was a major European operator of the Douglas DC-3. The first DC-3 entered service with KLM in October 1936. This made KLM the first operator of the DC-3 in Europe. 22 others would join before Nazi-Germany invaded the Netherlands on 10 May 1940 and occupied the country for five dark years. The KLM DC-3's served destinations in Europe as well as the famous 'Indies-route' from Amsterdam to Batavia (Dutch East Indies; nowadays Jakarta, Indonesia). Those DC-3's present at Amsterdam-Schiphol, if not destroyed by bombs, were impounded by the Germans. Other DC-3's that happened to be elsewhere out of reach of the enemy found their way either to the Dutch East Indies where they served on the KNILM routes to various destinations in Far East Asia and Australia until the Japanese invasion in February 1942, or to England where they were leased by BOAC for the London (later Bristol) to Lisbon service. PH-ALP 'Pelikaan' ('Pelican') ended up in the Dutch East Indies, was bought by KNILM (Royal Netherlands Indies Airways) as PK-AFV. On her last flight on 3 March 1942 from Batavia to Broome, Australia, Japanese Zero fighters shot at PK-AFV and set her alight. The aircraft successfully crash-landed on the beach at Carnon Bay, Australia. By Maarten Brouwer.

Scottish Airlines was formed in 1946 as the airline division of Prestwick based Scottish Aviation. The airline operated scheduled services within the UK along with charter work on a world wide basis. The backbone of their fleet in the immediate post war years was a dozen or so Douglas C47 Dakotas with long haul work being carried out by 5 Consolidated Liberator II & III transports. By 1958, the fleet was reduced to just one C47B (G-AMPP), this aircraft maintained the summer Prestwick to Isle of Man service and earned revenue during the winter with whatever charter work could be found. Due to her varied work routines and her pronounceable registration letters she was affectionately known by the airline staff as "G-AMPP the Tramp". By Jaap de Baare

Bonanza Air Services (BAS) was formed in early in 1945 by Edmund Converse, a former lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy; Charlie Keene, once an operator of a small charter operation in Santa Paula, California; and June Simon, daughter of "Pop" Simon the former secretary-director of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. BAS located its home base at the Sky Haven Airfield, now known as the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, and began operating with just one single-engine, four-seat Cessna. The company offered charter flights to several small Nevada towns but needed a place to promote its product. The trio struck a deal with the El Rancho Vegas Hotel and Casino to set up a ticket counter in the lobby. Bonanza Air Lines was the aviation pioneer in the western United States and proved to be a vital link in the air transportation industry. In it's 23 years of operation BAL growth continued up until the time of the merger. Bonanza will be remembered as a successful airline. By Tim Trivett.
